PAUL GARAUDET, Monthelie

Just west of the more famous villages of Volnay and Meursault, Paul Garaudet makes some of Burgundy’s most honest and endearingly sylvan wines in the village of Monthélie.  Paul himself is one of the most salt-of-the-earth, Burgundian archetypes that we know of… Don’t expect to find him doing marketing tours and press conferences; rather he’d be interminably smoking and quietly turning out some of the most table-ready wines of the Cote de Beaune.  Like him, his wines are full, charmingly rustic and eminently characterful.

Nobody ever said that Monthelie competed with the highest heights of Volnay or Pommard, but even the best are criminally undervalued and there’s no better way to get down with some valiantly authentic burgundy then to let us introduce you to the wines of Paul Garaudet.
