Kiralyudvar

Kiralyudvar is the only producer that we work with whose history includes the financing of 12th Century Holy Crusades.  The name means “king’s court” and the estate provided wines to Hungary’s royal court beginning in the 11th Century, eventually being adopted by the royal family itself.  This ownership was permanently disrupted by the first World War after which Kiralyudvar was run by a Tokaj research institute devoted to viticulture and oenology.  In 1997, a financier and Tokaj enthusiast named Anthony Hwang purchased the estate and began to update the cellars to world-class standards while simultaneously securing plots of the most esteemed vineyards in the region.  Catapulted by the vision of Hwang and the winemaking prowess of Noel Pinguet (also of Vouvray’s Domaine Huet), the Kiralyudvar of today belies its infancy by producing high-quality, modern Tokaj be it mouth-wateringly dry or succulently sweet.
