Domaine Fougeray de Beauclair, Marsannay

Jean-Louis Fougeray harvested his first vintage in 1979... from 0.25 hectares of vines in the village of Marsannay.

Today, Jean-Louis' daughter Laurence and her husband Patrice Olliver farm 20 hectares of land in Burgundy while Jean-Louis has set up shop with 15 hectares in Languedoc!  This is to say that you can pay $16 for a bottle of Picpoul de Pinet or $190 for a bottle of Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru from the same family, and both are excellent examples of their respective styles.

We're particularly fond of their Clos Marion monopole from the village of Fixin - a soulful and feminine Pinot that pits cranberries and white chocolate against violets and riverbeds.
