Domaine Bruno Clair, Marsannay
Bruno Clair runs a somewhat sizeable operation by Burgundian standards and makes wine from all over the Cote d'Or. For our purposes, and possibly to the great surprise of Burgundy trophy-hunters, the most important Bruno Clair wines are those from his home village of Marsannay.
Beginning at the southern-suburb of Dijon, this is the northernmost sector of prestigious Pinot country and nobody captures the supple, red-fruited and rigid style of the village better than Bruno Clair.
This isn't to say that we'll turn down his Clos-St. Jacques, but for affordable, nuanced, minerally Marsannay (be it red or pink!), look no further.
